Classic Christmas Card - Lawn Fawnatics Challenge

by - November 12, 2017

Hey there! I'm back today with another challenge post. Today, it's the Lawn Fawn - Fawnatics challenge using your oldest Lawn Fawn set. A friend of mine, Jenn Rzasa (yes I'm name dropping  my super cool card creator friend) gave me a ton of stamp sets that she wasn't getting much use out of since being on the Altenew Design Team. This was in that ENORMOUS bunch of sets.

I used the Frosties stamp set (retired) which I believe is from 2011. I also used a sentiment from the Bows and Holly set (retired) which is from 2010.

I was inspired by a gift bag I bought recently which is a very deep cranberry color with gold foiled writing. The cranberry color I used isn't as dark as I wanted, but I do like the way it turned out. I don't have Cranberry colored card stock, so I ink blended Memento Ink in Rhubarb Stalk on Bristol card stock which has a smooth vellum covering so blending is a piece of cake. If you're having trouble with ink blending, I strongly suggest trying Bristol Card Stock.

After that I masked off a section in the middle where I wanted to stamp my sentiment. I did this with just a strip of painters tape. I then created this snowflake background by stamping them randomly around the card stock in Versamark ink. Finally, I heat embossed Ranger Embossing Powder in Gold onto the snowflakes.

I decided after that I wanted to use a trick I learned from a Jennifer McGuire video which is to heat emboss the outer edge of a piece of card stock to match your embossing on your card front. I think it gives this card such a classic, vintage, christmas-y appearance. I decided to die cut the masked portion for the Merry Christmas sentiment that way I could give it a bit of dimension with foam tape.

After adhering it with foam tape to an A2 sized card base in Toned Tan card stock, I added a few Nuvo Crystal Drops in Pale Gold which have this beautiful sheen to them and really completes the card, in my opinion.

I hope this gave you some inspiration to create your next christmas card! I can't wait to see what everyone else in the challenge came up with. Check it out here.

See you soon!
