DIY Coverplate Die?! - The Stamp Market for Drive By Crafts

by - March 16, 2018

Hey everyone! I'm really excited to share these cards that I've created for the Drive By Crafts blog with you today. If you've been here before, you know I love finding new ways to use stamps and dies that I already own and this is a good one!

When I started crafting this card using the Heaps of Hearts stamp and die set by The Stamp Market, I realized that the heart dies weren't open. So to be safe, I decided to make all of my cuts first and then stamp directly onto those die cuts. To do this I used what was closest to me which was a piece of card stock that had been cut to 4"x5.25" (slightly smaller than an A2 sized card). That turned out to be a blessing in disguise!

About halfway through the cuts, I realized I was creating a design on my card stock. It looked very much as if I had taken a cover plate die to my card stock. I decided then that I had to use this to my advantage and create my own cover plate with the individual dies included in the set. I made sure not to overlap any of my cuts or get too close to the edges of the card stock.

I then played around with some alcohol inks and cut that background down to the same size as the die cut card stock. I adhered them together with some glue, adhered that card front with some foam tape to an A2 sized base, and finally added the sentiment "Friends Forever" from the Ampersand Stamp and Die set.

I have to say, this is one of my favorite cards I've ever created. I love the idea of repurposing what was going to be a piece of trash. It is true what they say...always keep those scraps! See you very soon!
