Zig Brush Marker Watercoloring and Layering - Craft Stash Hop
Hello there! I'm so excited to be participating in the "New" Craft Stash blog hop. The purpose of this hop is simple, use something in your craft stash that you haven't in a long time. We tend to hoard, don't we? Have you heard that saying, "Collecting craft supplies and crafting are two different hobbies"? I can relate to that on a spiritual level. I see a video featuring a technique or tool and think "I NEED that"! Once I get it, it sits alone on the shelf. Not to be touched again. Some crafty friends got together and we decided it would be a great idea to give some inspiration to these lonely supples. This is a BIG hop. There are 3 days filled with inspiration from crafty friends you know, and maybe some new faces to you. There are also some pretty great prizes to be won if you hop along with us! The full list of todays hop can be found with links at the bottom of the page!
For my post, I've decided to use a well loved product. Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. So many people LOVE their Zig Brush Markers and I'm always envious of their beautiful creations using them. I'll admit, I'm a little intimidated by watercoloring even though these markers make it pretty simple. I don't reach for them often enough and when I do, I don't always love the outcome. So, I decided to face my fear and put them to use!
Be sure to comment on each hop today! Random commenters from each day will be chosen to win some fabulous prizes from the sponsor list below!
This is a bit of a two-fer as I'm also putting to use my Painterly Days Watercoloring Book by Kristy Rice. I absolutely love using these pages to create envelopes or just to brush up on my watercoloring. I don't do it often and I think I've only used one page out of the book that I got well over a year ago, but I always want to crack it open and never find the time. Today is the day!
This watercoloring isn't perfect. I can see thousands of little mistakes throughout and it pained me to keep pushing on when I realized it wasn't miraculously turning out the way I dreamed it would. Perfectly. But, that isn't the point of this hop. I used these supplies that have been sitting on my shelf waiting for me to show them some love and I had a lot of fun doing it! I learned a few things about the Zig markers through trial and error which never would have happened without the "trial" part. I plan to use these markers again very soon to try out what I've learned and to see if it works better next time. They do say practice makes perfect!
I hope that you've enjoyed my post in the hop! Continue along here:

ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I never get the blending the way I want it but probably 85% of what I plan to do in the craft room isn't what I end up with.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the flower! I have a set of 12 Zig markers and barely pull them out. Maybe it is time to explore again. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteThanks for a great card
ReplyDeleteYou gals are causing me to feel somewhat guilty, because I have things I bought and have never used. I bought a few Zigs, but I also feel intimidated by them because I am not good at watercoloring. Your flower looks lovely and is an inspiration for me to find something to try my Zigs with......it's not like I will lose my life if I mess up.........LOL
ReplyDeleteThanks for being honest... you've encouraged me to continue going through the "trials".
ReplyDeleteGreat water coloring! I have some Zigs too and don't use them very often because I don't always like the finished result. I am going to have to try them some more after watching your video!
ReplyDeleteThis turned out beautifully, Ashlea. I don't have the zig brand markers but Lord knows, I have plenty of others. I really need to try this. Thanks for the lesson.

ReplyDeleteNot sure why you are intimidated with watercoloring! You do it beautifully! I have struggled with my Zigs so I don't use them often but I'm trying to keep practicing. Sometimes it's easier to just use my Go-to coloring medium, Copics. But I LOVE the look of watercolor!
ReplyDeleteI have not used Zig....... I'll have to watch some videos on them and try it

ReplyDeleteGorgeous colouring
ReplyDeleteyou did better than i can - and we're always the hardest on ourselves. you started with how you don't do this a lot and yet, there you were, doing it anyway. that is the BEST EXAMPLE in the crafting world there is. we don't have to be perfect to do art; we just have to do it.
ReplyDeleteI think you did a great job with these markers !! Don’t be so hard with yourself !
