Altenew Paint-A-Flower: Hydrangea Release Blog Hop + Giveaway
Hey there! Thanks so much for stopping by my stop on the April Paint-A-Flower release hop. This month we're featuring the Hydrangea flower in all its spring-y beauty! There's lots of inspiration and prizes up for grabs, so let's get right to it!
I'll be honest, this card did not come out how I planned. There were many hiccups along the way and I really wanted to muscle through and try to salvage my efforts rather than ditch the card. I started by stamping (and mirror stamping) the hydrangea image onto my card front. I chose pale blue and pale purple colors for my florals and a springy green for its leaves.
After coloring all of the elements in, I decided to color in my background with a very dark blue marker. This is something that I have done many times to many different cards that I've made in the past. What I have never had to double check was that the color I chose was full enough to complete the job. Face palm. It was not full enough this time. The color I originally chose ran out a little over halfway through so I needed to choose a new color that was as similar as possible. Obviously, without leaving the house to the marker refill (which is impossible in quarantine) I couldn't get the color to match exactly.
---->>>PAF SUBSCRIPTION PLAN<<<-----
This is a monthly subscription plan for our Paint-A-Flower set. When signed up, you are guaranteed a spot in our monthly PAF releases and will receive a set each month - at a specially discounted price! ($15.99 →$12.99)
Because of this, it's very clear to see where the lines of the markers are and it doesn't appear to be one cohesive color as it normally should. Like I said, I really wanted to salvage the card because I know that friends and family will still appreciate it, regardless of my mistakes. It's important to remember why we do what we do as crafters, and spreading happiness comes in a lot higher than perfection in my book.

ReplyDeleteSo glad you decided to push through on this card. It is still lovely. Even when we criticize ourselves way more than anyone else would.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully striking; a feast for the eyes, using such an intense background color. When I looked at the art, before reading your narrative, I thought you had deliberately created the striations to produce a pattern and add texture so not to have a monotoned background. So I say happy coincidence that created an even more interesting background! (All in the eye of the beholder...)
ReplyDeleteVery striking! Really catches your eye. Love it!
ReplyDeleteSuch great bold coloring! I Love the bright background!

ReplyDeleteThe card is beautiful. If I had not read your explanation, I would have thought that was the look you were going for as the background has a nice textured appearance. I also agree that spreading happiness comes in a lot higher than perfection!
ReplyDeleteI like your philosophy about spreading happiness and I think your card is beautiful as is. I often feel the same way about a card that I think is not perfect and I am working to get over that! Lol!

ReplyDeleteWell, I don't consider your background a mistake at all; it is very creatively diverse!!! Love the dark bold blue with your delicate flowers here!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous - that is a mistake? In which case - great mistake - the texture looks purposeful and is a nice, organic background that the hydrangeas glow against and the gold embossing looks great with that blue.

ReplyDeleteThe blue background makes the color of the flower petals jump out and I will try it. Beautiful card!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your mistake! I think it really lends a country effect, kind of like cross hatches. It also reminds me of what I might see in a comic book. I really like the way it came out. You didn't even need to admit your "mistake," but I'm glad you did - because you got to encourage all of us as to why we are crafters - for the joy of the doing, and seeing how the puzzle turns out in the end. Thanks so much for sharing!
